Windows 7 on netbooks verdict: not too shabby

View Comments

Now, Vista may be sluggish, wheezing brute that doesn’t play nicely on underpowered hardware so you could be forgiven for thinking that Windows 7 would be even worse, but not so. Turns out it’s pretty nimble on lightweight specs.

Laptop Mag was so bored with Windows XP that it only took a preview Windows 7 disc and an idle Eee PC before the two were united.

Despite only packing a 1.6GHz Atom chip and 1GB of memory, it turned out to be pretty responsive – once it was actually up and running. And that’s with unoptimised pre-beta code. The proper version should be much better.
