Sony and Universal have teamed up to offer an entirely new form of vending machine – one that sells digital media content rather than snacks or drinks. Pick a film, album or whatever and the PoP machine will speedily download it onto your memory card, USB device or PMP.
Details are fairly sketchy at the moment, and to be honest it seems like a bit of a recipe for disaster – we can imagine sticking in our USB stick only to find it comes out with only half a movie on it, while our bank account ends up £15 lighter.
Maybe we’re being a little harsh, and it sounds like a good idea for airport lounges and the like. Got a long haul flight ahead and nothing worth watching on your Archos? Then head over to the POP machine and pick out a new movie. The machines will also offer DVDs, Blu-ray Discs and games on traditional optical media.
