Since Google opened the Android source code it has been possible to re-compile the Android source for the Freerunner. There has been no talk of a new handset - just new software running on the existing one. The Freerunner already runs several software stacks, including the original GTK based stack, QTopia, A hybrid GTK/X11/Qtopia, Debian GNU/Linux and others. There are still a lot of markets in the world that don't provide 3G and some of them are among the biggest markets.
