GTA02 was the working name for the Neo Freerunner. Since Google opened the Android source code it has been possible to re-compile the Android source for the Freerunner. There has been no talk of a new handset - just new software running on the existing one. The Freerunner already runs several software stacks, including the original GTK based stack, QTopia, A hybrid GTK/X11/Qtopia, Debian GNU/Linux and others. That's the wonderful thing about having a truly open handset.

It makes sense to not include 3G in every phone. There are still a lot of markets in the world that don't provide 3G and some of them are among the biggest markets.

Hope the phone attempts to workaround the limitations of G1 and also takes the android to the next level
