5. Master Chief from Halo – if you happen to live in America you can cheat and hire this costume (although we’re betting it’s booked out by now). And while not strictly terrifying, it’s a) fairly intimidating if you’re tall and b) instantly recognisable even to most non-gamers.
4. American McGee’s Alice – the game may not have done big numbers, but the knife-wielding, blood-spattered little psychotic girl look can’t be beat.
3. Nurse from Silent Hill series – Extra creepy as it is, but bonus points if you move towards bright lights using creepy angular body movements.
2. Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid – see also Voldo from Soul Calibur. Warning: either of these costumes may have people thinking you’re not a videogame character, but a kinky sex freak. Although, of course, that may be fine with you.
