Japanese iPhone gets live TV tuner

Categories: Mobile Phones News   Tags: , , ,

The iPhone just got a lot more desirable, at least, if you live in Japan. Mobile network Softbank just announced an official digital TV tuner and battery booster for Apple’s phone, letting owners tune in to proper telly on the go!

The tuner is a separate device, picking up 1-Seg digital TV signals and then sending them to the iPhone via Wi-Fi. When it’s plugged into the phone it’ll boost the handset’s battery too.

It’ll allow three hours continuous TV viewing, using a free 1-Seg application from the iTunes store.

Words can’t describe our jealousy. The sooner Britain gets a proper mobile TV network, the better. In the meantime, we’re pinning our hopes on Elgato’s upcoming Freeview solution.
