The next generation of Ford cars won’t just have a speedometer and petrol guage, they’ll use a high resolution LCD screen to show your speed, fuel, and even animated plants that grow across the dashboard to show how efficient your driving style is.
The futuristic dashboard is dubbed the SmartGauge by Ford, and is due for inclusion in its Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrid, both hitting American roads in 2010.
The company reckons its new EcoGuide interface will help drivers make the most of their fuel, with animations that reward economical driving. Take a look at the video below and you’ll see the whole shebang in action. It’s impressive stuff, especially with plants growing up the side of the screen to demonstrate how responsibly the car is being driven. More leaves equals more economy.
