Not strictly intended to trip up away-playing partners, Text Guard is a new piece of software designed to let you monitor your angelic offspring’s text messages and keep unsuitable  types well away.

Naturally such technology is going to be abused by cuckolded spouses the world over, but remember it is technically illegal to tap up someone’s mobile without their consent.

No such trouble with your own clan though – just load the PC software and download the programme to their phone (don’t give the the choice!) and you’ll then be able to watch their every move. Once up and running you can read texts, see who they’re talking to, what they’re on about (the Urban Dictionary might be a wise purchase if you don’t know your Nang from your Pang) and even block specific Ne’er-do-wells from ever sending a text to your cherub again.

Big Brother isn’t just watching anymore, he’s now messing with your mobile. Currently it’s compatible with most Windows Mobile and BlackBerry, so we can only assume that for now at least it’s firmly aimed at rich American college kids and not the music phone-toting yoofs in the UK.

The software is free for 60 days and costs $11.95 per month after that.
