The T-Mobile G1 doesn’t launch in the UK until Thursday, but it’s already shown up on the web, available unlocked so you can use it on any network you like.
Online store i-Pmart has the handset on sale at a whopping $699, that’s just over £450. The store claims it’s completely unlocked, and even offers free delivery anywhere in the world.
T-Mobile won’t be too happy about it, since they confirmed at the phone’s launch that the G1 would be locked to their network. What’s more, it isn’t even on sale in the UK yet.
Still, it’s a fantastic handset, and given the open source nature of Google’s Android operating system, we can’t see hackers putting up with it being locked to specific operators for too long.
That said, T-Mobile’s bundle is a very good offering, including unlimited web browsing (they’ve even removed usage caps from G1 contracts) and a free handset for those paying £40 a month.
What do you think? Is an unlocked G1 worth £450?
