It’s lunch o’clock, so stop what you’re doing, close those Office apps, and fill you eyes with the latest tech news you’ve already missed today.
Lucky Americans have been buying the T-Mobile G1 for a few days already, but on Thursday it’ll hit Britain too. We can’t wait to get hold of the world’s first Android-powered phone, and those behind it are expecting huge successes.
HTC, which makes the handset, says it’s expecting to shift 600,000 of them in the first year.
In other phone news, we’ve been told by Samsung that Britain won’t be getting a single i7110 smartphone, despite it being shown off at last week’s Symbian Smartphone show in London.
It’s a disappointment, since we’d previously pegged it as a competitor to Nokia’s N96, packing in 16GB of storage, a 5 megapixel camera and DivX playback abilities.
What isn’t disappointing is news that the iPhone’s about to get new features. A fresh seed of the handset’s forthcoming software has been sent to developers, revealing new Google Maps abilities, including Street View and buttons to call up walking directions.
There’s also integration with public transport systems, letting owners find out which bus to take to get to their destination, and how long it’ll take.
