Android’s continuing to hog the limelight. First there was news its App Store will give all applications away free until the New Year, and now there’re murmurs of a touchscreen keyboard coming to the operating system in 2009 too.

It’ll put Android handsets on a par with the iPhone, with a finger-friendly keyboard that looks suspiciously similar to Apple’s efforts.

Google’s not just focusing on improvements to its own Android operating system though, it just dished up a new version of Gmail for other mobile phones.

The new GMail Mobile app lets you write e-mails even when your offline, as well as delivering speed boosts and the ability to switch between multiple accounts quickly.

Not content without a dose of Apple news? Word is the Mac-maker hasn’t killed the Mac Mini as originally thought, instead it’s prepping a top-to-bottom overhaul, adding speedier drives, the option to ditch the optical drive altogether, and Apple’s new standard-issue DisplayPort.
