Halloween is fast approaching, with just one week left to knock up a killer outfit. Or giggle at the efforts of others. Especially the gadget-themed ones.

If you were planning on going to a party dressed as a plain old vampire, scrap it. For the techies among us it’s a chance to impress with the biggest and most ludicrous costumes based on gadgets and gizmos. We’ve found the pick of them. Read on and be inspired!

iPhone
As costumes go, iPods are pretty old hat. All you need is a white box and some paper, after all. Capturing a curvy iPhone in human form is much more difficult, but these Florida students have managed it with style. Not only have they got the slimline body and square push button down to a tee, but their screens even change, making these very expensive cozzies indeed. You can see footage of them in action here.

Nintendo Entertainment System
Surprisingly, few people have attempted to dress up as a Wii, but one Baltimore teen proved such a hit as an iconic NES controller a few years ago he even made it on to games uber-blog Kotaku. If you fancy updating the idea, get another person and go as a Wiimote and nunchuk tied to each other. Being shackled to another over-dressed party-goer definitely won’t be annoying.

Tron
Remember when Youtube first became popular, and people actually watched viral videos? Tron guy was one of the biggest hits (He even got murdered in a South Park episode) with his far-too-sincere explanation of how he made his costume and the inspiration for it. It’s not so much that it’s difficult to make, more just that it’s a bad idea for an overweight engineer to wear it.

Sackboy
This one will be tough to get right, but given LittleBigPlanet’s imminent release, very topical. Destructoid found this shot of a life-sized Sackboy-man at a Sony event in Tokyo in August, and while it’s an official suit, there’s still time to get your knitting needles out and match it. Fashion a giant zip out of cardboard, and fling yourself around the party like it’s a home-made level of your very own!

BlackBerry
If you’re still not sick of the sight of RIM’s pocket emailers by the time you get off the train home, you could always dress up as one. We’re not sure if this guy spotted by a blackberrycool forum user is being paid to advertise the brand, or just doing it for kicks, but we still rate it. It’s not the BlackBerry Storm admittedly, but chicks will still dig the qwerty keypad. Possibly.

None of the above doing it for you? Fresh out of ideas? Here’s some of 2008’s hottest gadgets for you to dress up as. Nobody’s tackled them yet, so you’re guaranteed to be unique!

Nokia 5800 XPressMusic – Can you make this touchscreen phone recognisable in the flesh? Extra points if you include Nokia’s plectrum-shaped stylus.

Google Android – Google’s R2-D2-a-like robotic mascot is screaming out to be made into costume. Pair up with a friend, dress them as a T-Mobile G1 and sneer at anyone dressed as an iPhone.

Nintendo DSi - Dress up as Nintendo’s newest handheld, and get a mate to come clad in a stylus outfit! The real thing won’t launch in the UK until 2009, so it might be the closest you’ll get for a while.

Henry – Henry the hoover is back folks, and we’re sure you can make a nozzle out of toilet rolls and sticky back plastic.
