Bill Gates launches mystery tech firm

October 23rd, 2008

He might’ve cleared his desk at Microsoft, but Bill Gates isn’t out of the tech game yet. He’s just founded a new company, with a cryptic name, a high-tech office, and mysterious purpose.

Operating from Kirkland, just a short drive from Gates’ huge house on Lake Washington, the new company is called BGC3. Apparently, that stands for Bill Gates Catalyst Three, since it’s the third company he’s set up after Microsoft and the charitable Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

What the company is for is less clear. We’ve heard it’s going to coordinate Gates’ activities, both in business and charity. Sort of like a PA, but on a gigantic scale.

The company’s website simply shows a logo at present, and Bill’s kept schtum so far.

Regardless of its purpose, the business is certainly plush. Reports from its first visitors say the office is stacked with Microsoft kit, including a Surface computer and a high-tech visitor book. Well, he has to spend that pension somehow…
