Thinking of buying a new PSP? You might want to hold on to your cash until you’ve checked out the screen.
See, while the display in the new PSP-3000 is brighter than its predecessor, it also suffers a terrible striping effect, and it’s a symptom of the hardware, not the software, so can’t be easily fixed. Ouch.
Sony has confirmed to the guys at Engadget that the PSP-3000 that the “interlacing-like lines are just “features” of the new LCD.”
What’s more, there’s no way to fix the problem with a software patch, since the effect is the fault of Sony’s new hardware.
Wondering what the effect looks like? Posters on the official PlayStation forums are providing first hand images of the problem, and as you can see, it’s a serious one.
Sony’s looking into the problem, but at present there’s no obvious way for it to be solved.
