A man has been arrested with nearly 100 copies of Microsoft’s key pre-Christmas Xbox 360 releases: Fable II and Gears Of War 2. Rodney Gray worked for Technicolor in Memphis, Tennessee – the company prints game packaging and provides warehousing and distribution.
Gray was spotted by a security guard stealing DVDs and games. The guard alerted the police, who arrested Gray for outstanding driving offences and searched him, his car and his room. In total, 97 copies of the two games were found alongside 807 other discs (of presumably less newsworthy games). The total value? Apparently over £55,000. The police have also announced they’ve arrested a second Technicolor employee for selling stolen games.
In possibly unrelated news, a RAR file of Gears 2 has appeared on BitTorrent sites. It being a 6.76 GB file and utterly illegal to download, we haven’t verified yet whether this is the game or whether it’s a load of rubbish porn and viruses.
For the record, my take on piracy is: games shouldn’t be so expensive, but that’s just tough – and downloading stuff illegally just makes annoying DRM more likely and good, experimental games/music/films less likely in the future.
