Okay, so this doesn’t look good – according to reports, some of the Ubuntu dressed Inspiron Mini 9s have gone out the Dell factory complete with bonus disk config problems. Good job there isn’t a new super shiny mini coming very, very soon.
The folks at UbuntuMini were less than impressed with Dell’s custom Linux user interface – or rather ‘severely crippled’ Ubuntu version as they put it. Ouch.
Digging further deeper into the partition structure, they discovered that despite the unit they received having a 16GB drive, only 4GB had been allocated to the OS and a whopping 8GB was just hanging around doing nothing. If you’re feeling brave, you can check your own hard drive config by entering ‘sudo fdisk -l’ at the terminal. You should probably back up your data first – and maybe not shave for a couple of days too for best results.
