Rash risk to mobile phone users

Anyone using their mobiles for long periods (i.e. most of us) now run the risk of developing an allergic skin rash according to a scary report just out from the appropriately acronymed British Association of Dermatologists or BAD.

The problem came to light after docs reported a handful of unexplained skin problems that turned out to be caused by nickel found in the casing and buttons of some mobile phones….although nobody knows which ones yet.

Nickel used in jewellery has been known to cause irritation to wearers, so if your nose stud has ever gone mangy your mobile might be out to get you as well.

Dr Graham Lowe, from BAD, has dubbed the condition “mobile phone dermatitis” and has suggested “if you have had a previous reaction to a nickel-coated belt-buckle or jewellery, for example, you are at greater risk of reacting to metal phones.”

We’re not exactly reaching for the wet wipes and calling (on a plastic landline) the telephone sanitizers just yet, but we’ll bet each and every one of you that at least one hands-free headset manufacturer jumps on the band wagon to pronounce their latest ear plug “Nickel free calling for your health and protection.”
