Amid all the hubbub over Apple’s new MacBook and MacBook Pro, it’s easy to forget the company’s new Cinema Display, but you shouldn’t. It’s the best looking, and most thoroughly thought-through screen we’ve ever seen.
Crafted in the same style as the iMac and new MacBook range, it’s lit by LEDs and designed to work best with Apple’s new laptops.
The whole thing’s powered by a single cable, with no power brick in sight. The cable attaching the monitor to a computer also has three strands – a Mini DisplayPort connector for graphics, a USB cable and a Magsafe connector to charge up Mac laptops.
The USB cable powers the screen’s built-in iSight camera, microphone and speakers, as well as three powered USB ports at the back.
It’s a well designed screen, and even the speakers have been given special attention. Not content with two speakers, in the lower left and right corners, Apple’s built in a third, centre speaker, that fires downwards to reflect sound from the screen’s stand.
Essentially, this is an iMac without the guts inside. It’s also expensive for a 24-inch screen. However, if you’re looking for a beautiful MacBook companion, there’s none better built.
