In a refreshing case of Britain Gets Something Before America, the Korg DS-10 Synthesizer for the Nintendo DS has just launched this side of the pond.
Developed by AQ Interactive, this clever bit of music creation software packs a complete Korg MS-10 synth inside the handheld device. Wii Music suddenly seems a bit rubbish.
Music fans and anyone who bothers to read Wikipedia will know that the Korg’s synths have a special place in music history. They have been used by artists including the Prodigy, Daft Punk, Soulwax, Air, Ladytron, and a load of others that people who know better will probably tell us are a thousand times more talented than the ones just listed. Comments section is below, guys.
This is no dodgy homebrew either; it has Korg’s official seal of approval and has been created by a crack team of game developers. The software makes full use of the touchscreen to generate new sounds and you can connect up gates just by drawing in the wires.
If you want to collaborate and make some serious tunes, you can hook up with up to seven other DS consoles wirelessly. You can also save up to six different tracks; the only real downside appears to be a slight restriction in how you get your creation off the DS afterwards. That’s just a good reason for artists to get their DS out on stage - Creamfields may never be the same again.
Here’s a video of it in action:
