LG KC780 budget 8MP sliderWhile others race to launch their first 8 megapixel camera phones, LG is showing off its second: the KC780 “portrait phone”, on sale next month.

It’s a slimmed down version of the KC910 Renoir. But sadly by that we mean features, not form factor. Contrary to earlier reports, at 13.9mm the sleek slider is pretty much the same thickness as the Renoir. LG has shaved a bit off the back, but left a bump at the top where the camera is.

So what’s missing? The KC780 lacks the Renoir’s 3G, Wi–Fi, touchscreen and GPS (so no geotagging). Basically it’s just a very slim slider phone with an awesome camera. And hopefully a slimmed down price tag to match.

What you do get is the same 8 megapixel sensor, Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens, built-in image stabilizer and ISO 1600 for great low-light snaps. There’s an autofocus that detects faces and smiles, plus you can use the “smile shot” function to automatically trigger the shutter when your subject is smiling. While its “beauty mode” removes spots and imperfections on people’s faces.
