Pictures of what appears to be the first ever WiMAX-equipped mobile phone have popped up online. Unless some kind of Photoshop jiggery pokery is afoot, the snaps show the HTC T829 apparently connected to Yota, a newly opened WiMAX network in Moscow, at a 3G-caning speed of 13.8Mbps.
That’s almost twice as fast as current HSDPA phones can manage, and in fact WiMAX has more in common with Wi-Fi than it does with 3G: it’s basically a wireless network with a range measured in miles rather than metres.
We’re sure to hear more on the T829 in the coming weeks, but as yet we don’t know anything about specs or pricing - although rumours suggest it’ll have a 3.8-inch touchscreen with an 800 x 480 resolution. And Bluetooth!
