Ever sent a late night e-mail, only to regret it first thing in the morning? Yep. We all have. Including the programmers at Google, so they’ve created Mail Goggles, a new feature that stops drunken mailing by asking maths questions before your message is sent!
“Sometimes I send messages I shouldn’t send,” explains the new feature’s creator, Google code-wizard Jon P. “Like the time I told that girl I had a crush on her over text message. Or the time I sent that late night email to my ex-girlfriend that we should get back together.”
Mail Goggles solves all that. Jon explains: “When you enable Mail Goggles, it will check that you’re really sure you want to send that late night Friday email. And what better way to check than by making you solve a few simple math problems after you click send to verify you’re in the right state of mind?”
The new feature only kicks into action at times set by you (or late at night on weekends, by default). It’s simple, and effective. We hope. Otherwise we’ll still keep getting into trouble for sending all those late night “brainwaves” to friends and colleagues.
You’ll find Mail Goggles under the “Labs” tab in your Gmail account’s settings.
