We’re a little sceptical of this, but it seems to be the real deal. Despite Apple’s terms and conditions prohibiting satnav apps on the iPhone, G-Map looks to be exactly that!
Created by satnav firm XRoad, it’s a whopping 700mb download, bringing mapping for a handful of American cities to Apple’s handset.
It’s designed to work without a network connection, so it’ll keep mapping even “up mountains” or “at sea,” as it has all the maps it needs onboard.
There’s 3D views of road junctions, Point of Interest data, latitude and longitude, as well as direct dialling for locations, just by tapping the phone number on the map.
XRoad says the app will let users “get directions” too, although there’s no word on whether they’re spoken, or even if they’re proper turn-by-turn instructions.
At present, it’s not available on the UK App Store either, so we’re unable to find out. If anyone has tried it, give us a shout in the comments section below!
