We’ve speculated about Firefox Mobile for a while, and even had some hints from Mozilla that it’s coming sooner than expected. Now there’s word that it could be launching in just a few weeks.
Mozilla CEO, John Lilly, let slip in an interview with LinuxInsider that the mobile version of everyone’s favourite browser would hit handsets in unfinished form in just a couple of weeks.
“We want to make sure that the Web on mobile is more like the Web than what the mobile industry offers today, which is closed,” he explained. “Separate networks and not a very good information-getting experience for the user. The first thing is to bring Firefox to mobile devices. We’re working on that, and we’ll see some alphas in a few weeks.”
Alpha versions of software are extremely early versions, usually bug-ridden and unstable, but it’s a start.
We’ve already caught sight of Firefox’s vision for the mobile web. Take a peek at it in the video below and prepare to get excited. Very excited.
