The BlackBerry Storm isn’t just going head to head with the iPhone with multi-touch and copy and paste, RIM has a bespoke App Store in the works too!
It’ll only run on Storm devices (or later models running BlackBerry’s version 4.7 touchscreen operating system), letting owners browse third party apps and download them to their handset.
Unlike Apple’s iPhone App Store, the BlackBerry Application Centre will be hosted by network operators, with updates sent to RIM’s central directory. That means whichever network sells the Storm will have control over the homepage of the Application Centre, letting them promote their own proprietary software first.
Likewise, it means applications from other networks, or those which are prohibited by the network each particular device uses, will not show up.
As with Apple’s store, BlackBerry’s version will let Storm owners install new applications with a single click. Applications are also deleted from within the Application Centre, which also delivers software updates after checking for availability daily.
