Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer just can’t help spreading rumours. First he gave us a few choice hints towards the future of Windows, and now he says Zune software will be coming to Windows Mobile. Zune phone, anyone?
Rumours of a Zune-branded handset have swirled around the net for years, but now Ballmer says that, instead of getting a handset, we’ll see the Zune’s software, and music store, on Windows Mobile instead.
“The Zune software will also be ported, and be more important not just with the hardware but on the PC, on Windows Mobile devices, etc,” he said.
Making the Zune store available to Windows Mobile phones would put the handsets on a level playing field with the iPhone, which already allows Wi-Fi access to iTunes.
However, there’s no firm date for Zune on Windows Mobile, and until Ballmer decides to spill the beans, we’ll have to wait for more details. Stay tuned!
