Sega’s back in the hardware business! But the games firm isn’t launching a home console to take on its old enemies Sony and Nintendo – it’s just pulled the wraps off a portable media player that’ll offer games as a bonus function.
Dubbed the Sega Vision, the unit will feature a built-in TV tuner and a camera for video and stills, and will be able to play video, music and photo files, in addition to games and e-books.
The Register, which broke the story, claims that tech specs are yet to be revealed, so we don’t know the resolution or size of the screen (it looks 4:3 rather than widescreen though, which isn’t a great sign), what kind of storage Sega has lined up and if the TV tuner will work in the UK.
A 2009 launch is on the cards for the Vision, but that’s as specific as its gets. We’ll bring you more news as we get it.
