Comes with Music - fatally flawed?Nokia’s Comes with Music service offers unlimited music downloads for free, so it’s pretty cool, right? WRONG, according to 7digital CEO Ben Drury – it’s actually very far from cool.

According to a report on Distorted Loop, Drury said, “Nokia’s new service is an interesting new model for digital music but at first glance seems fatally flawed. Songs downloaded through the Comes with Music service are not in MP3 format and are wrapped in DRM locks, which means the downloads cannot be played across a multitude of music devices including iPods and all other MP3 players.”

A fair point, and one you’d expect from the head of a company that sells only DRM-free MP3 downloads, but Drury then tears into the terms of ownership, which means users cannot transfer their tunes from the original device or computer to which they were downloaded – so they can’t share them across several devices, and have to bin them when they upgrade their PC or phone.

Again, a fair point – but we reckon the fact that Comes with Music is totally free means a lot of customers will be willing to put up with these issues.
