The stage is set for another console showdown in 2011, not only are Nintendo thought to be prepping a HD Wii, but word is Sony’s got a PlayStation 4 primed for release in the same year.
According to PC Watch, Sony’s holding talks with developers about the underlying technology that’ll go into the PlayStation 4.
According to the latest rumours, it’ll be based on a revamped Cell processor, pumping out twice the number-crunching power as the current version.
We’ve already heard Sony say that Blu-Ray can’t be improved, and know that there’s a smaller Cell processor due for release iminently.
However, with hints that the next-generation of PlayStation will use solid-state hardware to load games, or even download all its titles direct from the ‘net, just like the rumoured HD Wii, we’re looking toward 2011 for the mother of all console battles.
