Flash support is coming to the iPhone! At least, it is if Adobe’s software passes approval by Apple, the company has revealed.
Speaking at the Flash On The Beach conference in Brighton, Senior Director of Engineering at Adobe Systems, Paul Betlem, said the company had been working on Flash support for the iPhone, but that the final decision on whether it’s made public is down to Apple.
“My team is working on Flash on the iPhone, but it’s a closed platform,” he said at a Town Hall meeting session during the event.
The revelation will give hope to iPhone owners all over the world, who have been limited to watching YouTube videos and tuning into the BBC iPlayer, while the rest of the flash-enabled web passes them by.
Of course, Apple has the final say on any software built for the iPhone, and since Flash not only requires approval, but integration into the Safari browser, we’re still expecting a large delay before full Flash makes it to the iPhone. Still, it’s nice to know Adobe’s working on the problem, whether it gets the go ahead from Apple is another matter.
