There’ll be celebration at Xbox headquarters today: new figures from ChartTrack show the console has more than doubled its sales in the last two weeks, since price cuts took effect across Europe.
The Xbox 360 has seen sales increase by 214% in the last fortnight, according to the figures, a huge surge caused by Microsoft’s reduction in price of the Xbox 360 Arcade to £130.
However, the Big M is also at pains to point out its latest ad campaign will have had an effect, since it’s the “largest marketing campaign in the history of Xbox” we’re told.
Whatever it is, sales of Microsoft’s games machine in Europe hit 6 million last week.
Chris Lewis, Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA at Microsoft, said: “This data shows that the Xbox 360 trajectory continues upwards, and not just in the UK. We’ve seen uplift in all countries in Europe and are confident that even at this rate of growth we can keep retail satisfied with a steady supply of consoles throughout the Christmas season.”
And it’s not just the basic Xbox that’s selling well. Microsoft slashed the price of all its bundles, including the 60GB Xbox at £170 and the 120GB Xbox 360 Elite, which is now £230. Maybe Microsoft doesn’t need a slim Xbox 360 after all.
