Electricpig has just returned from Pixar’s studios in San Francisco with the inside story on the Special Edition BD set that’ll launch on November 18. WALL-E is programmed to clean up for Christmas.
WALL-E proved to be a return to form and yet another theatrical smash hit for Pixar’s moneymaking San Francisco operation, but profits from the DVD and BD, when they hit the shops in November, will trigger another avalanche of cash for Steve Jobs’ other Californian company. Pixar is taking Blu-ray very seriously now and WALL-E’s simultaneous format release will be the way forward for Disney/Pixar movies. The BD release of WALL-E will be weighed down with deleted scenes, commentaries, interactive games and downloadable BD-Live content including WALL-E’s favourite song from Hello Dolly. A Digital Copy, or ‘Disney File’ as it will be labeled, will also be bundled in the box.
New shading and lens filter technology was developed for WALL-E to give it an evene more realistic look than previous CG films, which is apparently transfering perfectly to Blu-ray, making this disc set a serious bounce back from the slightly disappointing Cars release. Pixar’s vice president even hinted that Finding Nemo might find its way onto Blu-ray next, which would also mean a November 18th US sale date. A big date for Pixar-lovers diaries then.
