Phil Harrison loves the iPhone… how times change. The iPhone has made a splash in the gaming world since the launch of the app store. It’s already been claimed by Sega America president Simon Jeffery that it’s as powerful as a Dreamcast console, and now Atari’s president (and former PlayStation boss) Phil Harrison says it’s a model of “handheld innovation”.

Harrison, who previous to taking the top job at Atari was president of Sony Computer Entertainment, overseeing the PlayStation and PSP, said the iPhone is “Leading the global charge in innovative handheld technology and changing the way we consume and interact with media.”

Erm… isn’t that what the PSP was supposed to do?

Regardles, Harrison says Atari’s full attention is now on the iPhone, where it’s steadily releasing a stream of games.

“This is the first step in bringing Atari’s wonderful heritage of games right up to date for the iPhone generation,” he said.
