Last week we brought you news of Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II, armed with a fat 21 megapixel sensor and aimed squarely at the mid-range SLR market. Now we have hints that Hasselblad has a new flagship SLR in the works, the H3DII-60, and it’s about to steamroller everyone in its way with a positively obese 60 MP sensor.
The rumours come straight from the horse’s mouth too, the horse being Hasselblad CEO Christian Poulsen, who let slip at Photokina 2008 that the company would be updating its 50 megapixel H3DII-50 model in just over half a year, and that the H3DII-60 would offer a lovely 94 per cent full frame.
Brace yourselves though: Hasselblad make the toppest of top-end SLRs, and Poulsen hinted that the H3DII-60 would cost at least £4,000 more than the DII-50, putting the price tag very close to £20,000. Only billboard photographers need apply, and even then they’ll have to wait until April 2009 to grab it!
