T-Mobil G1After all the fanfare and buzz surrounding yesterday’s T-Mobile G1 launch, there has been time to sift through the fine print, and there are some nasty surprises in store, including a measly data allowance levied on the phone by T-Mobile.

The terms and conditions for the handset in America limit the G1 to downloading no more than 1GB of data from the web per month.

That’s going to be tricky to contend with considering apps are already in development to throw data around like crazy, and Google itself is even making YouTube available on the phone.

When the G1 hits the UK, we’re expecting its owners to make good use of its giant screen, with applications such as BBC iPlayer, so that limit won’t last long at all.

T-Mobile says anyone overstepping the 1GB limit will have their connection speeds limited to a worryingly low “50kbps or less.” Ouch. Suddenly the iPhone, complete with free Wi-Fi and generous 3G usage caps is looking more appealing after all.
