The Eee PC – small, light, cheap and available in a gazillion different versions, right? Wrong. You can strike cheap from the list with the introduction of the $899 Eee PC S101.
It may be decked out in brown, but Asus has clearly spent more time than it normally devotes to design when it comes to the S101. So that’ll be at least double digits then.
It’s got sleek curves and a shiny new skin. All in all, very un-Eee PC-like. It also comes with a positively palatial 2GB of memory and up to 64GB SSD drive. The screen a stretches to 10.2in and is rumoured to use LED technology, but Asus is keeping schtum about whether that’s true or not just yet. Whispers on the internet say the 32GB model will be $699 – about £380 – while the bigger 64GB version will set you back a whopping $899 – around £490.

I started off hating the “bronze” look (I’m almost certain that’s what Asus will call it). But it’s growing on me. It’s almost a dignified alternative to the usual white!
I suppose bronze sounds ever so slightly more upmarket than poo brown.
