With the T-Mobile G1 just around the corner all eyes are on Android, and those include Amazon’s top brass, which is rumoured to be plotting a music download service for Google phones.
It would put Amazon on a level playing field with iTunes, which is already accessible by iPhone and iPod touch owners.
According to VentureBeat, Amazon already has an application running on Android, allowing music to be purchased and played back on the phone. What’s more, it’s reportedly able to deliver paid-for video too, potentially allowing movies and TV shows to be bought on the move.
Lastly, Amazon’s system is understood to work whether it’s using a 3G or Wi-Fi signal, while Apple’s iTunes for iPhone and iPod touch will only work in a wireless hotspot.
According to Distorted Loop, MySpace Music is also working on a music store for Android phones, although it’s not expected to launch any time soon.
