The Wi-Fi enabled iBasket is a laundry bin, washing machine and tumble drier all in one, but it’s much cleverer than that – it’ll start washing when it senses the drum is full and then send you a text or email when the load is done!
Of course, this is still just a concept and another brilliant entry for Electrolux Design Lab 2008. It’s up against stiff competition from the Flatshare Fridge, Mini Cookers and Office Kitchen, but the futuristic iBasket certainly brings the washing machine bang up to date. Sensors in the bin are triggered when it has enough dirty linen for a wash, sending water cascading in from the top. The inner drum spins the clothes clean and then tumbles them dry, while updates are sent to your mobile phone or computer. It’s made of clear acrylic glass, so you can watch your smalls whizzing around, while all of the other materials are recycled. Wi-Fi connectivity means you can communicate with iBasket remotely – if there’s really nobody else around to talk to.
