Sony prepping wireless OLED TV

Sony’s unnamed wireless OLED TVSony’s long awaited XEL-1 OLED television is finally nearing a UK release, but far from resting on its laurels, the manufacturer has just pulled the dust sheets off an updated model – one that’s totally wireless!

The as yet unnamed goggle box is an 11-incher with a 960 x 540 resolution and mammoth 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, just like the XEL-1, but it also sports a battery – meaning you can simply carry it around the house with you, watching telly wherever you happen to be.

The design has been slightly altered, obviously – the tuner is now on the back of the screen rather than in a joined-on base box, which means the XEL-1’s legendary 3mm depth has been lost.

No release date or price has been revealed by Sony – but given how long it’s taken for the XEL-1 to make the trip to Europe since its initial announcement, we wouldn’t expect to see this one hitting the shelves for a long, long time.
