Leica has officially announced the successor to its classic M8 Rangefinder digital camera. The M8.2 Rangefinder sports the same 10.3-megapixel sensor and the same body as its predecessor – but beyond that you’ll find a number of discreet but worthy improvements.
Top of the list for most users will be storage: there’s now an SDHC card slot supporting up to 32GB (that’s room for a LOT of photos). The shutter operation has been quietened down as well, and the LCD monitor now comes with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass coating – the first time that’s been done on a professional digital camera, apparently.
Leica also promises faster battery charging and a new Snapshot mode that sets ISO, shutter speed and white balance automatically.
