Samsung is the latest manufacturer looking for a piece of that tasty netbook pie. The Korean giant has slipped the fine folks at What Laptop some official preview shots of an upcoming rival. So should Asus, MSI et al start getting worried?
The as-yet-unnamed netbook is a 10.2-inch model which will reportedly available in white, black and blue finishes. Media keys have been shunned in order to fit the biggest possible keyboard on the dinky lappy, and even the power button has been shifted onto the right side panel. Which is where you’ll find VGA, audio and USB ports as well. The other side panel totes an Ethernet socket and a couple more USBs.
A release date is yet to be set, but the end of October looks likely.
No word on specs just yet, although What Laptop speculates that it’ll come with Windows XP, an Intel Atom N270 processor and 1GB of memory, plus a standard hard drive offering either 80GB or 120GB of storage. Likewise, Samsung is keeping quiet regarding pricing, except to say that it’ll be “in keeping with similar offerings on the market”. Hmm – so it does sound like the other netbook makers have a new rival to contend with. We’ll bring you more news on this mini notebook as we get it.
