One of the display robots that stands outside the manufacturing plant of gorillarobots.com in Maine, USA, was lifted over the weekend with apparently no witnesses to the theft of this early eighties stylee comedy bot.
The robot’s creator posted a YouTube video begging for the gorilla’s release and offering a $500 reward and received a response from the abductor via YouTube showing the gorilla robot safe.
Using a sock puppet he asked for a million dollars in ransom cash.
Its a happy ending though folk as the thief apologizes with a “I didn’t know it’d be such a big deal.” and the gorilla then found in a field hundreds of miles away.
These robotic gorillas are a serious business in this neck of the woods, the six foot plus machines sold to business owners across the state to stand outside their premises and draw attention to their wares.
Its something we sorely need outside faceless shopping centres here in the UK, banish billboards lets have grinning gorillas with waving hands attracting our attention to come inside.
A bit of creative spirit is all thats needed to add some flair to the dark hair, a personally selected paint job, just look at this shocking pink machine, possibly used to keep people moving briskly by rather than stop.
