Brit audiovisual stalwart Cambridge Audio has just ripped the dustsheets off its first ever Blu-ray player, due to hit the shops early next year.
On paper, the Azur 640BD offers pretty much everything we’ve come to expect from a decent Blu-ray deck: there’s an HDMI v1.3 output offering 1080p pictures at a cinema-like 24 frames per second, plus the ability to upscale standard DVDs to hi-def quality. The audio side of things is also well covered, with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD offered in their raw bitstream forms – discs and your AV receiver permitting, of course. There’s also an Ethernet port, which suggests BD-Live and all its web-enabled activities will be supported.
Ominously, Cambridge Audio hasn’t revealed a price yet – but we’d expect that info to be forthcoming nearer the on-sale date. We’ll keep you posted.
