Those memory-mad mavens Buffalo have just launched what they claim is the world’s first external solid state USB drive: the MicroStation.
Small - yes, there’s a clue in the name - and coming in 32GB, 64GB and 100GB flavours, the drive hooks up to your PC via a USB 2.0 cable that handily wraps around its body when not in use. Buffalo reckons it spits out data at speeds of up to 35MB per second.
The drive itself weighs a featherlight 60g and measures a mere 89 x 57 x 14mm. Despite this slight build, its solid state guts mean it can apparently withstand quite a pounding. Although given the pricing (£115, £230 and £344 for the 32GB, 64GB and 100GB models respectively), we doubt many buyers will be too keen on putting its mettle to the test.
