Apple’s huge success with the iPhone 3G has pushed the device’s share of all web activity to a record level, cementing its position as the fourth most popular browsing platform in the world.
According to new figures from Net Applications, iPhone browsing passed 0.2% of the web’s total page hits in June, before peaking with a record high of 0.48% on August 23rd.
Sure, those figures might look small, and in comparison with desktop browsing they are, but compared with other mobile phones, the iPhone is surging ahead.
Net Applications says the double jumps in July and August are directly related to the masses of iPhone 3G handsets Apple has sold since July 11.
The new stats show the iPhone had a 0.30% ownership of global web users last month. In short, that means one in every 333 page hits came from Apple’s phone.
Still not impressed? It means the iPhone is now the fourth most popular web browsing platform, trailing behind Windows, Mac OS and Linux. Other phones just don’t get a look in.
