Home cinema projectors are super-expensive and tricky to set up, right? Not according to Epson, they’re not - the world’s biggest lightbox-maker has just whipped the sheets off a pair of products that don’t require blackout blinds and several thousand pounds of living room remodelling.
First up is the £499 EH-DM2, an all-in-one 3LCD model featuring an integrated DVD player, virtual surround sound speakers and a USB port, plus an extra-bright lamp. It’s an all-in-one cinema in a box!
The idea is you can whack it on your coffee table, fire it up and start watching a movie or playing a game in seconds - it works in almost any lighting conditions, and the built-in speakers mean you don’t need to fuss about with an external sound system.
Disadvantages? Well, it’s not HD ready - the resolution is 854 x 480 - so hi-def content will be downscaled.
The second model, the £649 EH-TW420, is very much geared up for HD. Sporting an HDMI input and a resolution of 1280 x 720, it’s designed primarily with video gamers in mind.
Again, there’s a high powered lamp for daytime use, plus a single 7W speaker, so while it’s not going to rumble your living room, setting it up is quick and easy. The USB port and SD card reader mean you can view photo slideshows too.
