Exclusive: Toshiba might be planning to shove the PS3’s Cell processor inside their next-gen TVs, but Sony thinks its a step too far, ruling out TVs with a PlayStation brain any time soon.
“At the moment we’re not looking at cell in TV,” explained Tim Page, Sony’s technology marketing manager. “The PS3 is a full on video processing machine. When we start streaming to the TV with DLNA, we might need more power, but at the moment it’s a ‘no’.”
Meanwhile, Toshiba has proudly shown off the Cell’s fancy processing in a prototype upscaling TV, as well as its latest laptops, which use the chip for speedy video processing and HD playback.
What do you think? Should Sony be making more of its Cell-based assets? Give us a shout in the comments section below.
