Philips EssenceWall mounting your telly can be a right pain in the proverbial – but it’s a situation Philips’ skinny new Essence TV could well remedy.

38mm thick and weighing a spritely 16.5 kilos, this 42-inch LCD connects to a separate media box via a single 4-metre cable that delivers power and audiovisual signals.

Because you hook your DVD player, set-top box and games console up to that separate box, cable clutter is slashed at a stroke.

The included bracket allows the TV to be adjusted like a picture hung on the wall, and the narrow soundbar can be ditched if you’re getting your sonic fix from elsewhere – leaving you with just the narrow-framed screen sitting on your wall like some mad work of AV art. Genius!
