We’re used wireless internet, wireless keyboards, wireless audio, wireless everything in fact. Except power, which still remains in the world of sci-fi. Not anymore, though, as Intel has shown off its wireless power system. Who knows, with that in place maybe the iPhone 3G could last a whole day.
At its annual developer shindig in San Francisco, Intel wowed everyone with its Wireless Resonant Energy Link (WREL) system to show how a 60W light bulb could be lit up without a physical connection to a power source. David Copperfield, eat your heart out.
Apparently the trick with wireless power isn’t whether you can do it or not, it’s whether you can do it safely - which seems fair enough to us. Not getting electrocuted is always a bonus.
