Sony’s busily promising more must-have PSP titles before the end of the year, pledging that new and exciting franchises will hit the handheld. According to Sony, they’re the sorts of titles that’ll make gamers say “wow”… but what will they be?
We’ve rounded up our most-wanted titles, along with ideas we’d love to see on the PSP. Come take a peep and whet your gaming fancy.
LittleBigPlanet
We’ve had to continually retrieve our jaw from the floor after every new glimpse of LittleBigPlanet for the PS3. But wouldn’t it be great if it also came to the PSP?
Instead of having to log into your PS3 to create levels, you’d be able to take them with you to show your mates, maybe even exchange ideas between PSPs with Wi-Fi.
Sony could quickly turn the handheld into the ultimate LittleBigPlanet builder’s tool, with gamers creating a level on the train, and playing it on their PS3 when they get home.
LittleBigPlanet’s developers Media Molecule have already let slip they have a big surprise in store, lets hope this is it.
Megaman
The internet’s message boards have been buzzing with talk of bringing Megaman out of temporary retirement. What better platform for him to make his return than the PSP?
There may have been Megaman overkill in the past, but now’s the perfect time to re-energize an old franchise which is already perfect for the handheld arena.
MAG (Massive Action Game)
One of Sony’s trump cards in its E3 lineup, MAG would provide the perfect springboard for a PSP gaming resurgence. With up to 256 players involved in a single online game, it’d be a shame not to get the handheld in on the military-themed action.
Wouldn’t it be great to download weapons and items from your PSP when out and about to use in the PS3 game back at home too? Or plot strategies from the handheld using remote play.
Or why not combine elements of RTS strategy with first person multiplayer? Being able to build and place defences on the map to defend bases that show up on your PS3 when you log in? It’ll keep all other 255 players guessing your next move!
Eyetoy PSP games
The PSP has video messaging down, but what we really want are games that use the portable console’s Go!Cam. How about an Eyetoy-like game for the PSP using its video skills? If it’s possible on the PS3 and PS2, then why not transfer it to the handheld to play on the move too?
It could transform online multiplayer with friends and family being able to see the person they’re up against, even if they’re on the other side of the world.
Streets of Rage
The Streets of Rage franchise is a legend in 2D scrolling beat-em-up folklore, perhaps more so than the Final Fight titles on the SNES. If a PSP reincarnation can hit the heights of Streets of Rage 2 it’ll be one of the best comebacks in handheld history. And with a loyal nostalgic fan base it’d be a definite win for Sony.
Zone of the Enders
Metal Gear Solid maker, Hideo Kojima proved he wasn’t a one-trick pony when he produced what’s possibly the best robo action game around. Before Zone of the Enders appeared on the PS2 most mecha style titles left us sending them to the robot scrapheap in the sky.
It doesn’t take a videogame genius like Kojima to work out ZOE would translate superbly on the PSP, but it would be great if he did. Imagine firing up your Jehuty robo soldier and raging robotic-style against your multiplayer foes.
It’s fast, simple and would wow PSP gamers’ socks off. Come on Sony, you know it makes sense!
