If you’re thinking of bagging yourself one of Asus’s newest (and purplest) Eee PCs then you may want to take a look at the hard drive speed first as it might not be up to snuff.
JKKMobile has been digging a little deeper into the 900a specs and he’s not that happy with what he’s found. Apparently the early pre-release models had decent drives, but the retail version will ship with a slower SSD. This is from the man that has already plotted many an Eee PC drive speed.
According to the super Eee PC hacker, the shipping 900a comes with a slower MLC SSD (geek out: multi-level cell memory stores multiple bits of information in a single cell, making it cheaper to produce but slower to access). He reckons it might just be okay for Linux, but it’s not really up to the job of taking on XP.
